TuneWiki is an Android music application with special support for song lyrics and great integration into the TuneWiki user community.
Your Android already comes with a built-in music manager, but if you are looking for something a little more interesting, try TuneWiki for size. This little application performs basically the same job - managing and playing the music you have stored on your computer - but it also features extras that make a real difference.
The most important of these extra features is the lyrics finder. TuneWiki will display the lyrics to all the songs it can find them for, highlighting each line as it is sung. You can manually add and sync lyrics if they are not quite right, view them fullscreen, or turn off the feature automatically for songs to which it can't find the words.
TuneWiki is also well integrated into YouTube, for music videos, and a handful of other services, like Last.fm. There is also a good user community, with the app collecting data on the most popular songs and artists and creating playlists and search functions so that you can find new music.
Among other nice touches are an album art finder and sleep timer, so you can doze off while listening to your favorite tunes. Managing your music with TuneWiki is also easy - press and hold the song or album name for a full list of options. At times TuneWiki felt a little rough around the edges, but even so, it adds functionality to your mobile music experience that few music fans will be able to resist.
Maximize your Android music experience with TuneWiki.

Evernote is a free note-taking app designed to help you organize your life more effectively.
The idea behind Evernote is that you can save text, voice notes, images and other files using your phone, then access this information on your home computer or, indeed, any PC in the world. Equally, thanks to this online sharing approach, you can use the Evernote app to view notes you've made elsewhere.
Everything about Evernote is based around simplicity. The user interface of the app might not look that pretty, but it's very functional and makes it easy for you to add and retrieve notes. Buttons on the home screen allow you to capture images and attach them on the fly, upload files, write text notes, and add audio notes.
Tagging and searching
Any note you add in Evernote can be tagged with your own custom tags, making it easier to access in future. The Evernote Android app lets you browse notes by tag, or you can use the powerful search tool, which not only browses text notes, but can even search text that's contained within images.
As useful as it is, the Evernote Android app is far from perfect at the moment. It doesn't save data locally, only to SD card; there's no offline mode, so you always have to be connected, which is bad news if you don't have a good data plan; and there are no tools for adding new notebooks. Hopefully these features will be addressed in future releases.
As it stands, Evernote does offer a fast and easy way of taking notes on your phone, then accessing them elsewhere.

Winamp for Android is an attractive mobile music player with options for syncing audio to your phone over WiFi.
The application provides an easy way to listen to music on your device. The user interface in Winamp furnishes you with simple player controls for fast access to your music, and an easy way to switch between tracks. There are options for shuffling and repeating your tracks, and Winamp for Android also lets you create playlists.
The main Winamp menu provides the ability to browse audio by artist, by album, by songs, or by playlist. It also lets you view your playback history, and perform searches by artist, album or song. Of course, another key feature of the app is that it allows you to quickly sync music from your the Winamp desktop client to your phone over WiFi.
This Android version of Winamp is still in beta phase, so it isn't the finished article yet. In fact, it feels pretty light on features when compared with the Windows version of the program. For example, there's no EQ, skins, visualization, or SHOUTcast radio support.
Winamp is generally very easy to get around, but we found the playlist editor to be a bit clunky. You're not able to browse for a track to add from within the Playlist screen (which you can do with the default Android music player). Instead, you have to move a song to the playlist from the player screen, which is a bit annoying.
Overall though, Winamp makes for a more enjoyable way to enjoy music on your phone than the standard player that comes with the OS.

Google Goggles is an awesome mobile app that allows you to use your phone to search the web for the objects you see around you.
The newest version of Google Goggles is nothing short of amazing. The handy app works like this: use it to take a picture of anything you see around you – barcodes, newspaper ads, landmarks, logos, wine labels – and Google Goggles will recognize the object, search for it on the web, and present you with the most likely explanation, link or description of the object you photographed.
The Google Goggles interface is very simple – your phone’s camera is overlaid with a grid. There’s a large button to take the image, a crop function to get a better focus and a flashlight, for using the app in the dark. There aren’t any configuration options – instead, you have a getting started tutorial and lots of online help. You’ll also be able to use Google Goggles to investigate a photo that’s already stored on your phone, or to enable search history.
Once Google Goggles has taken and analyzed your image, it will present you with the options it has found. Once you specify which option you are looking for – choosing between a famous painting or a book that uses that painting on its cover, for example - you’ll get Google’s search results. It’s not accurate 100% of the time, but when it is, it’s pretty amazing.
Google Goggles can be used to get information on bunches of stuff – your imagination is pretty much the only limit. The latest version can even scan and search for more information on ads in newspapers and magazines, or solve sudokus! Give it a try, it’s pretty cool.
Google Goggles lets you use your phone to get more information on the world around you.

Justin.tv is one of the most popular and diverse places for user-generated live video. The website allows you to easily broadcast your own video for free, to as many viewers as are interested, and now the full service is available on this iPhone app.
Justin.tv has a standard iPhone interface, with a central scrollable part, and option bar at the bottom. There are Featured channels, Favorites, Search, About, and More tabs. If you have an account, you can import your favorite channels, otherwise you can build your own as you explore the video content.
While watching a channel you can chat with other viewers. Once you've created a Justin.tv account, you can also save and share channels you like. Sharing will open your mail app, so you can send the link to your friends. Twitter and Facebook integration is missing here!
The app works fairly well. Occasionally it crashes and will shut down, but it's not too bad. Now Justin.tv version 2 has introduced is the ability to broadcast from your iPhone's camera - this makes it a really cool application as it's so easy to get into. Broadcasting on the move could hardly be easier!
Justin.tv is slightly unstable, but a pretty good live TV streaming app nonetheless.

Financisto is an excellent free, open-source personal finance manager for Android.
Since you always have your phone with you, it's an excellent idea to use it if you're interesting in keeping an eye on your finances. The fact that it's always available means it's perfect for tracking spending, budgeting and generally keeping an eye on the numbers. If you're serious about the task, then Financisto is the perfect app.
Manage your money
Financisto's very easy to use, and even if you've never used a personal finance app before, you shouldn't have any problem. The first thing to do what you have the app installed is to set up all of your accounts, sources of income and regular expenditure. Sure, this will take a little while, but the better prepared Financisto is, the easier it will be for you to use on the go.
Adding transactions is easily done by entering the account/credit card in questions and using the icons at the bottom of the Financisto interface to withdraw cash, lodge money or make transfers and other transactions. You'll also be able to filter transactions, so you can see patterns and habits, and create templates, so that you won't have to manually create regular transactions every time.
Track your spending
By going into Financisto's home page (Accounts), you'll be able to schedule predictable payments and perform mass operations. This is also where you'll have access to Financisto's configuration options, which are quite complex and deserve a few minutes of your time. Here in the home screen is also where you can access the other tabs - Blotter, Budgets and Reports - which allow you to track your finances across time or in reference to your budget, if you choose to create one.
In all, Financisto is an excellent app. There are a few small quibbles - some operations are buggy on Android 2.2 and although you can save Financisto to the SD card, the developer doesn't recommend it as it can cause problems with widgets and other options, which are one of the app's major pluses. Even so, Financisto is well worth a try and could even become one of your must-have apps.
Free and highly effective, Financisto is almost perfect!

Angry Birds Rio is a brand new adventure from the creator of one of the most popular mobile games of recent years.
The story is based on the motion picture, Angry Birds Rio. The original Angry Birds have been kidnapped (or should that be 'bird-napped'?) and dragged off to Rio de Janeiro. There are 60 levels in Angry Birds Rio, set across two different episodes. The developer tells us we can look forward to more new episodes being added throughout 2011.
One of the objects of Angry Birds Rio is to set the rare exotic birds free by catapulting the Angry Birds at the intricate structures and cages they've been imprisoned in. You will also be asked to squash chattering monkeys by flinging your birds at them, which is great fun.
Angry Birds Rio looks even better than the original game. The graphics are much more vibrant and have a certain cinematic feel to them. The squawking sound effects are excellent as well, although we missed the cute grunts of the famous green pigs.
In terms of gameplay, Angry Birds Rio hasn't really innovated on the first game. Sure, there are new twists, such as collectible fruit and some new achievements, but the basic concept of launching birds at constructions is the same.
But if you enjoy the format of Angry Birds, you should definitely install Angry Birds Rio.

Originally released on Android, GRave Defense HD for iOS has finally been released. A standard tower defense game, GRave Defense HD is different because of its horror theme.
The game does not feel any different from the previous release and that is a positive. The gameplay of GRave Defense HD has been one of the most addictive for the genre. Each level consists of a determined amount of waves of enemies that take various paths on the different maps.
Players have to choose strategic points to set up their defense towers which consist of multiple different types of towers. From machine gun towers to towers that slow the movement of monsters, GRave Defense HD offers a lot of different strategies.
Visually, GRave Defense HD contains a lot of color though the game isn’t as graphically intense as other games that use three dimensional graphics. The style of GRave Defense HD works perfectly for the game especially on the iPad’s larger viewing area.
With the audio, GRave Defense HD still retains the same soundtrack that GRave Defense HD Free on Android had. The soundtrack of GRave Defense HD fits the game well and it changes depending on the particular wave the player is at.
As a whole, GRave Defense HD is not much different from GRave Defense HD Free. It is a port, but the original release was very strong and with the lack of new tower defense games, GRave Defense HD is a great addition to iOS.
GRave Defense HD is one of the best tower defense games, but if users have it on Android there is not much that's different about it.

The iPhone's camera takes surprisingly good pictures, and the Hipstamatic app allows you to take retro, photos with a film camera feel.
When Hipstamatic loads, the iPhone's screen is transformed into a cheap old school camera with a small viewfinder. The turnover icon at the bottom flips the camera so you can see the front, allowing you to scroll through different lenses (three are included), choose a film and flash type.
Obviously, the iPhone has no flash or film, and all of Hipstamatic's variables are designed to simulate the looks from certain films or flash types, and the same is true of the lens. While this may seem gimmicky, the effects are pretty cool. Flashes add different sheens to your photos, the lenses have really different feels to them, and the films add borders and imperfections for that retro look.
There are two quality levels, although high quality images really do take a few seconds to 'develop'. Your Hipstamatic photos can be instantly shared via Facebook, Flickr or email. They are also kept in the iPhone's photo library. Add-ons for Hipstamatic can be bought in app that give you more lenses and films etc, but the basic pack is still really cool.
Hipstamatic is an excellent photo app for the iPhone, which adds some great effects to your photos.

Tumblr is a great micro blogging service, where you can share all sorts of media, from text to quotes and audio and video. Now you can blog from your iPhone with this great Tumblr app.
Pretty much everything you can do on the website you can do with this Tumblr app. The interface has three main buttons at the bottom, with Post, Dashboard and Settings. Post is divided into the seven types of Tumblr blog posts, starting with text and going to to video. Each of these buttons in turn opens another interface where you can post the content you have chosen.
There are also advanced options so you can save posts for later, or even post publish. It's all really well integrated into the iPhone, so you can add pictures from your camera roll, or take new ones. The same is true for video, and with audio you can record directly into the microphone.
The Dashboard will update with all the Tumblr bloggers you're following, just like on the website, and in Settings you'll enter your account details, and choose whether the app starts with the dashboard open or not.
If you use Tumblr, this iPhone app is a great way to blog on it. It's user friendly and very capable.

Google Catalogs combines reading catalogs and purchasing items in a simple and useful way.
The purpose of Google Catalogs is straightforward. The application allows users to browse digital catalogs from numerous large-scale retailers and purchase items. When users click on an item in the catalog, they are brought to a description page with the option of purchasing the item through the Android device.
Google Catalogs removes the necessity of catalogs being mailed to consumers and fills Google Catalogs with many retailers for users to read. The choice of retailers is very small right now, focusing on holiday items and high-end, well-known sellers.
Formatting of the catalogs in Google Catalogs is by reading a double page spread or a grid system that shows off every page with scrolling. Google Catalogs also has options for sharing online and adding favorites of pages.
In the 1.0.0 version of Google Catalogs, there are small performance issues. The application has problems loading the various catalogs by brand rather than type, and some catalogs have problems scrolling through pages. It is frustrating that it can take a couple seconds before a new page loads.
This early build of Google Catalogs is a great start, but there is room for improvement.

Call of Duty ELITE is an app that provides mobile access to your Call of Duty ELITE account.
A parallel to the browser and console application, Call of Duty ELITE on iOS also allows you to modify custom loadouts that are pushed into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Most of the application is statistical information about your time in Call of Duty. The major section of the app shows your career summary with stats on kill-to-death ratios, points per match, and other specific information.
Call of Duty ELITE also allows you to view recent matches and see progression over the last ten matches. The multiplayer mode of Call of Duty aggregates a lot of information, some of which may not be important to casual first person shooter players.
Hardcore fans will enjoy the in-depth look at their progress in the game. Call of Duty ELITE shows level progress, challenge progress, and even calculates the estimated time it would take to get to Call of Duty’s Prestige mode.
The biggest function of Call of Duty ELITE is the ability to remotely change custom weapon loadouts in multiplayer. While you cannot create a new loadout, it is possible to modify existing sets just like regular multiplayer from the primary and secondary weapons to accessories and perks. Once you are done modifying and have saved, Call of Duty ELITE will push the changes into the game.
Call of Duty ELITE is a great tool to track progress in the game, but is suited for hardcore players.

Where's My Water? is a highly enjoyable water-based physics puzzle game that will have you gripped to your phone for hours.
What's the aim of Where's My Water?
The object of Where's My Water? is to help Swampy the hygiene-obsessed alligator take a bath by digging a path for the fresh water to run down through the sewers and through his shower head. Hold your finger down and draw a path through the mud to send the water cascading down (or up in some cases!). You can scroll down levels using the somewhat cumbersome slider bar.
Borrowing elements from the classic
A tough challenge
Completing levels in Where's My Water? isn't as easy as you might think. There are lots of obstacles to negotiate, such as acidic water that will burn Swampy if it touches him, conveyor belts, bridges, barriers, and much more. It's complicated by the rather crude digging controls, which aren't very precise - especially if you have fat fingers!
In each puzzle you should try to collect as many of the three rubber ducks as you can by filling them with water en route. There are also unlockable items and achievements to complete along the way, so there's plenty of gaming to be had in Where's My Water?
How good is it?
Besides having an original and captivating concept, a great game needs to be well executed in its presentation, and Where's My Water? certainly ticks this box. The cartoony graphics are great fun, and the physics of the water is very realistic.
Swampy himself is a real character. We love the way he sings in the shower, complains when not enough water is coming through, and gets so excited when the taps come on. The music in Where's My Water? is very catchy, and unlike many games like this, it rarely gets boring.
Where's My Water? is one of the most enjoyable casual games for iOS, and is challenging enough to keep you playing for hours and hours.

Plants vs. Zombies is a highly addictive strategy game, requiring players to defend their house from zombies by using a variety of plants.
The core of Plants vs. Zombies is to use plants to defend your house from oncoming hordes of zombies. The fun of Plants vs. Zombies comes from the variety of different offensive and defensive plant types and the immense variety of zombies that all attack the house.
Plants vs. Zombies’ graphics style is recognizable PopCap style. Cartoon influenced visuals bring a family-friendly look to the game. Each character is carefully designed to maximize the core of the game. Plants are easily recognized by their individual traits like sunflowers producing sunlight and zombie-eating plants featuring wide mouths and sharp teeth.
Even the zombies have their own style. Normal zombies just have plain clothes, but later levels feature zombies with pole vaults, screen doors, and buckets on their heads. Each additional detail to the zombies adds an effect like the ability to take more damage or only be affected by one type of flower attack.
Adventure mode in Plants vs. Zombies is long and provides hours to experience, and extra modes like the 20 mini-games, puzzle mode, and Zen Garden add more content.
The strategic elements of Plants vs. Zombies are slim in the beginning of the game, but in later levels there is a consistent tight balance between planting more defensive flowers or attacking larger zombies with offensive landmine potatoes.
Plants vs. Zombies is one of the greatest strategy games available and provides hours of enjoyment.

Frontline Commando is a third person shooter that sends players right into battle.
Using familiar popular gameplay mechanics like destructible cover, high-powered weapons, and 3D graphics, Frontline Commando is an impressive shooter for mobile devices.
Presented as a one-man army, Frontline Commando offers an experience very close to home consoles. The high quality graphics are impressive, containing smooth animations and outstanding effects. The game is like an action movie where players are given weapons and assigned missions to get revenge.
Even with a lot of action on the screen, Frontline Commando does not suffer lag or glitches and is consistently challenging. The audio of the game also envelops players in the multiple environments and various enemy types with different sound effects.
Frontline Commando’s controls are also very polished. Aiming is controlled by moving fingers around the screen with designated fire, reload, and cover movement buttons. There is also a duck button that serves as the reload when near an ammo crate. Include the various purchasable weapons and Frontline Commando’s gameplay can change rapidly.
Various missions require players to eliminate all enemies, survive for a length of time, or even rescue innocent people in the warzone. The variety of missions keeps the experience fresh. Weapons are purchased with money earned through levels or in-game currency purchases. Some weapons and items can only be purchased with the in-game money.
Frontline Commando is a great example of an excellent game using touch controls to manipulate the character onscreen. The experience of Frontline Commando is amazing because the game plays very smoothly.

Android browsers are ten a penny, but not all of them are worth installing. xScope Browser - Web & File is an interesting option, and definitely worth a second look.
xScope Browser - Web & File is also a file explorer, saving you from installing a separate app like
Using the browser - and tabbed browsing - is especially comfortable when you hold the phone horizontally, although anyone with fat finger syndrome might struggle with both tabs and options.
Although xScope Browser - Web & File boasts a file explorer, we have to admit that it's not the most impressive. While it might sometimes be handy to take a look at your files from inside your browser, the feature isn't very flexible, simply allowing you to browse, copy and send. If you're looking to do any real file management, we recommend that you look elsewhere.
In all xScope Browser - Web & File is a nice app. While it won't be knocking apps like
While not the strongest contender in the Android browser pack, xScope Browser - Web & File is a very decent option.

Looking for a good Twitter client for Android? Well, you'll struggle to find many apps that are more powerful than UberSocial.
This free version of UberSocial lets you access your Twitter feeds and post tweets with the minimum amount of hassle. The program's home screen displays a list of the latest tweets of the people you're following, which automatically updates as well as UberSocial's star feature - the Überbar!
The Überbar
Clicking on a tweet pulls up a menu with a wealth of options for responding, including Reply, Show Profile, Favorite, Retweet and Retweet with comment. UberSocial also displays lists of mentions and direct messages. The Überbar, however, is the star of the show, giving you access to a wealth of features via the slideable icons at the bottom of the screen. Down here, you'll be able to see your mentions, DMs, search, trending topics, mute user options and much more. Even better, the Überbar is completely customizable.
To post a new tweet in UberSocial you just click the speech bubble then type your message. You can also quickly capture and add photos and video from your camera, or select an existing image or video file that's stored on your device. UberSocial will automatically set up the link in yFrog for you, and there's a one-click URL shortener too.
More extras
One of the great things about UberSocial is the amount of customization it gives you. There are options for adjusting the way you are notified of new tweets, along with a series of in-depth display and URL-shortening options.
Another great feature of this latest version of UberSocial is Live Preview. Turn your Android device on its side and a new kind of display will appear. Here you can view new tweets in a panel on the left, and a preview of any web pages linked to in the larger pane next to it.
UberSocial is an excellent Twitter client for Android, and one that gives you a great deal of control over your Twitter experience.
